veerakeat
a native of Thailand, Veerakeat has been painting since he was 10 years old. He won his first artistic awards at the age of 14, confirming his desire to be an artist when he grew up. His family, however, wanted him to pursue a more practical career, and so he studied design and received a Bachelor of Art degree in Interior Design. Still wanting to get back to painting after working for several years in design, Veerakeat moved to San Francisco in 1991. In 1994 he received his Masters in Fine Art from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco and became an artist full time. Veerakeat has spent the last 16 years in San Francisco, experiencing the sounds and sites as he wanders the streets-the inspiration for his cityscapes.
"color." It is the single most powerful word that describes how Veerakeat lives and paints. Veerakeat is fascinated by colors and shadows. Cityscapes allow him to capture a single moment, the tail lights of the car speeding, the light reflecting off the cars and buildings. He exaggerates the perspective to create intensity of emotions in his paintings.
