they can be read from a distance, but the more time you spend, the closer you get, the more that is revealed. Darkness hidden under layers of light. Undercurrents of doubt and fear. Scars of loss.
each sculpture is based on a strong, initial concept that is deeply personal. It is defined and focused through extensive writing, but no sketching. I take that initial concept and build upon it, creating a piece that is emotional, but subdued. The piece is built up, then slowly stripped of anything that isn't necessary, revealing the primitive essence of the subject.
they are graphic, but not cold. they are simple, but truly complex.
the pieces are sculpted in hot wax over metal armature, then cast into bronze.
